New blog for Spaghetti Blogenese

10 Mar

It took me a couple of months, but I’ve recovered from my spaghetti bolognese eating quest. Now I’m on to a new project called Hungry Chica.

Hungry Chica is a blog documenting the burgeoning Melbourne Mexican food scene. Hungry Chica will travel across town to try tacos, burritos, quesadillas, guacamole, nachos, margaritas, corn and more, oh my! From traditional Mexican type to hawker-style food, follow the journey at www.hungrychica.com.

And the winner is…

13 Sep

I’m blogging to you live from the winner announcement finale party being held at YGAP in St Kilda. The drinks are flowing courtesy of Jack Rabbit Vineyard, DJ Kynda is on the decks pumping out tunes and bowls of spag bol are being sampled by guests. The space has been decked out thanks to Complete Function Hire and Meko Creations are currently dishing up a special dessert in honour of the blog.

All this aside, everyone was all ears when I stood up a moment ago and announced the winner of Melbourne’s best Spaghetti Bolognese. 52 Melbourne restaurants, $981.91 spent on bolognese, approximately 16 kilos of pasta and sauce consumed and it boils down to this…

3rd place: Villa Romana, Lygon Street Carlton 18.5/20
2nd place: Ladro, Greville Street Prahran 19/20

1st PLACE: Rococo on Acland Street in St Kilda dish up the BEST spaghetti bolognese (in my humble opinion) with a score of 19.5/20

Rococo spag bol

Their secret? They wouldn’t divulge everything, but the head chef did say that whisking the meat once it browned to get rid of big lumps helped! A nice little tip there.

Honourable mentions go to:

Lupino,  18/20
Mama Baba,  17.5/20
Mamma Vittoria,  17.5/20
Rockpool, 17/20
The Italian,  17/20
TiAmo,  17/20
400 Gradi,  17/20
Grossi Florentino, 17 /20
Pinocchio’s,  16.5/20
Marios,  16/20
Sugo,  16/20
Cicciolina,  16/20

A big congrats to all the above listed restaurants and in particular Villa Romana, Ladro and of course Rococo! Most of all a big thank you to everyone reading this and for following me this past year. It’s been a hell of a lot of Bolognese, a lot of fun and incredibly humbling having you read it.

I must get back to the party but tune back in for photos by Dani from Spit and Giggle in the next few days and to hear about my plans for the next food blog (yes, there’s more from me!). Can you guess what the next theme will be?

Ciao x
